A Family Home
Over the years and through the generations, members of the Mellana family have loved this home and have spent a significant part of their time in Rosignano Monferrato. Flora, Filippo and Giulia’s daughter, helped make the castle famous thanks to the extraordinary parties she hosted in the 30s and 40s attracting guests from all over Italy.
Some of the original furniture and artifacts in the castle belonged to the Mellanas; such as the billiard table, piano, the bronze bust of Flora, and the collection of Alexandria newspapers published in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
History
Built in the 1800s, the house belonged to the Mellana family until 1985, when Giorgio, Filippo’s son, sold it to Attorney Falabrino. At that time, the painstaking reconstruction and restoration work began and was continued by the Boltri family, current owners of the castle since 2005.
Inside
Over 5,000 square feet (500 square meters) is divided between guestrooms, kitchen and common rooms. Restoration has respected the original materials – – wood, iron and brick – – from the fortifications of the walls and mullioned windows to the original wood floor in American larch. Everything has been designed to relax mind and body.
External
Fascinating when enveloped by autumn mists and silent in the cold of winter, the outdoor garden blooms with color in the spring. Palm trees “united” by inviting hammocks, tables for a refreshment in the shade of the trees, a rose garden with 100 plants, two terraces dedicated to aperitifs, and a solarium.

From an eno-gastronomic point of view, our territory is very special and world-renowned. Starting from the famous red wines of Monferrato, such as Barbera, Dolcetto, Grignolino, Freisa, Ruchè, and the elegant whites like Arneis and Cortese (all DOC), to the great tradition of grappas and distilled liquors. This area also offers meats, cured meats, cheeses, and fruits and vegetables that, depending on the season, are transformed by us into delicious breakfasts so you can start your mornings off right! And, it is no secret that the best white truffles in the world are found in this area of the Piedmont region.

The art / inside and outside our Castle
The Art is inside our Castle, among the ancient walls, original furnishings, paintings and objects that tell of centuries past. The Art outside our Castle can be found nearby, including the Sacro Monte di Crea, the quarries of the “pietra da canton” (precious construction stone derived from marine sediment) and paths to the discovery of the UNESCO protected “infernot” (underground rooms used to conserve wine). A ten- minute drive takes you to Casale, the capital of Monferrato, which offers visits to architectural masterpieces such as the Cathedral of St. Evasio, the Castle of the Paleologi or the ancient Synagogue.
